Statement from A.J. Wilhelmi: Federal Approval of Redesigned Hospital Assessment Program

June 21, 2018

Statement from A.J. Wilhelmi, President & CEO
Illinois Health and Hospital Association

Re: Federal Approval of Redesigned Hospital Assessment Program

On behalf of hospitals and health systems across the state, the Illinois Health and Hospital Association (IHA) commends the Governor, Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Legislative Medicaid Work Group and General Assembly, and the Illinois Congressional Delegation for partnering with IHA and the hospital community on this important initiative.

This was truly a collaborative team effort that will help ensure access to quality healthcare for the state’s three million Medicaid beneficiaries. The redesigned, modernized Hospital Assessment Program will bring the State $3.5 billion annually, including more than $200 million in new federal funding.

The redesigned assessment program preserves access to healthcare for all Illinoisans, especially vulnerable populations in urban and rural communities across the state, including those served by Safety Net and Critical Access Hospitals.  The program has been modernized to update patient data and use that data to drive resources to where healthcare services are being provided.
